Dear Community Judge,
We very much need your help assisting us as a judge at our Music City Match Tournament, Thursday - Saturday, February 6-8. Your help with judging our 160+ students from multiple states will contribute tremendously to making our tournament successful, as well as importantly staying on time!!
Community Judges also serve an extremely significant role as you assist us in hosting a FAIR tournament since you do not judge students you know and so do not favor one student, team, or Club over the other students, teams, and Clubs, but judge fairly based on merit. Merit is one of our core values both in our national League, Stoa, and in our Club, Ambassadors for Christ!
So, we are inviting & requesting that you join us and assist us as a Community Judge for this Spring semester tournament. If you are a homeschooling parent, bring your students to observe as you judge!
We work to express our thanks to you for your help as a Community Judge by providing you with delicious meals, desserts, snacks, and drinks served all day each day, prepared by our amazing Club Mom, Esther Crandall and her team!
We also provide experienced speech and debate parents, often coaches, usually from out-of-state Clubs, to give training for each event offered at our tournament. Their tournament role is also to be available to answer any questions you may have about events you judge.
We start early each day and go into the evening. Come early, stay as long as you can, all day each day would be great! This is our tournament schedule.
Here are comments and feedback from those who have volunteered to judge:
An Unanticipated, Unforgettable Experience…
I recently experienced a true highlight in my personal life. I volunteered to be a judge at a Speech and Debate Tournament. Little did I realize it would be the highlight of my volunteer activities for the year.
The day of judging taught me much in skill and technique that I can take into my own professional life and brought renewed respect for young people.
If I could offer advice to community leaders, executives and adults it would be to NOT MISS the opportunity to judge if you are ever presented with the opportunity.
With grateful hearts for any help you can give us, we look forward to seeing you in February as we pray for great weather - the almost balmy weather, mid 40's & 50's, Accuweather is now predicting for these dates!
Many thanks,
Lana Thornton
Tournament Director
